Last week a suspected case of Alabama Rot was reported on Wimbledon Common. It now seems likely that the presence of the disease will be confirmed.
Whilst Alabama Rot affects low numbers of dogs and the cause remains unclear, please remain vigilant as early veterinary intervention is crucial.
The key advice – please click on the ‘alabama rot news’ link below is to keep walking your dogs but be vigilant and :
- avoid mud and water as far as possible (we know…)
- bathe your dog if he/she gets muddy and wet on a walk, using dog shampoo
- check daily for lesions on the skin and occasionally in the mouth, which can look like bites, sores, wounds or stings
- seek advice from your vet as soon as possible if you find anything suspicious
